Diabetes and Podiatry Team Take on the Hampton Court Half Marathon

A dedicated team from Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Diabetes and Podiatry unit is taking on the Hampton Court Half Marathon this weekend, all in the name of raising funds for the diabetes unit and enhancing patient care.
The historic Hampton Court Half Marathon offers a stunning route through the grounds of Hampton Court Palace and along the River Thames, making it a truly memorable challenge for the four-strong team. Among them is Diabetes Specialist Nurse Corinna Riley, who has been with the Trust for eight years, alongside Lead Podiatrist Maria and Podiatrists Michael and Rachael.
“We saw the Trust’s advert and thought, ‘We can do that!’” said Corinna. “Then we realised just how much training is involved! We now have huge respect for anyone taking on a marathon.”
In Podiatry, one of the key aspects of specialising in diabetic foot and limb complications is helping patients to stay mobile and independent. “We are privileged that our current health allows us to (hopefully) complete a half-marathon distance,” Maria explained. “By doing so, we are hoping to raise money that will be directed back to our specialist unit for the care of people with severe foot disease.”
The team is passionate about raising awareness of the benefits of exercise in managing diabetes while also generating funds to improve patient education and resources.
“Every £1 counts – even the smallest donation will help us make a difference.”
Funds raised from the teams fundraising will go directly towards enhancing diabetes care at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals, ensuring that patients receive the best possible support.
