From the Swimming Pool to the Skyline- Shula takes on the Abseil St Helier

Shula Payne, Patient Pathway Co-ordinator for the Endoscopy Department at St Helier Hospital, is no stranger to a challenge. A former competitive swimmer who once represented Great Britain, Shula is now taking her adventurous spirit to new heights- literally.
This April, she will be abseiling down the very building she works in, all in support of Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity.
Shula has dedicated her career to the NHS with over 15 years’ service, having worked in gastroenterology and child protection before joining the Endoscopy team at St Helier nearly a year ago. She values the strong teamwork within her department and the shared commitment to patient care.
Outside of work, Shula has always been active. Her swimming career representing Great Britain took her around the world. After retiring from swimming, she took up triathlons, which included challenging open-water swims. Moe recently, she has been playing tennis- competing in first-team league matches for Kingswood Tennis Club.
Shula, who is also a proud ‘Nana’ to Blossom and Jaxon, is looking forward to the abseil as a new personal challenge. She’ll be cheered on, on the day by her two daughters Stacey and Asher, and her husband Vic.
“I’m excited to take on the Abseil- it’s a great opportunity to try something new while supporting a good cause. Shula has chosen to support our Paediatric Department, who will use funds raised to support patients and their families.”
